BIOGRAPHY

Dr. Maier is a clinical psychologist in the Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) Center at EBTCS where he works with adolescents and adults. He has significant prior training and experience working with individuals who are suffering from emotion dysregulation, suicidality, self-harm, trauma, and mood and anxiety disorders.

Dr. Maier received his B.A. from Whitman College in Walla Walla, WA and his doctorate in psychology from Rutgers University in New Brunswick, NJ. He has participated in a variety of research projects including cross-cultural expressions of distress, emotional wellbeing in schools, and was part of a research team at Mount Sinai studying a new treatment for Borderline Personality Disorder. Dr. Maier completed his predoctoral internship at the James J. Peters VA in the Bronx where he participated in their DBT team in both outpatient and substance use departments. He completed his postdoctoral training in Mount Sinai’s Mood and Personality lab before settling in at EBTCS.

Dr. Maier is trained in evidence-based approaches for anxiety, trauma/PTSD, insomnia, and emotional dysregulation. He is passionate about collaborating with clients to develop self-compassion, effective behaviors and a life that reflects their values. Dr. Maier also believes strongly in the capacity and strength of individual persons and works with clients to identify their strengths and to empower and advocate for themselves.

Dr. Maier is a member of the American Psychological Association (APA) and Washington State Psychological Association (WSPA) and is a licensed psychologist in the state of Washington.
