BIOGRAPHY
Dr. Shimomaeda works with children and adolescents in the Child Anxiety Center.
Dr. Lisa Shimomaeda is a postdoctoral fellow at EBTCS in the Child Anxiety Center. She has specialized training in treating anxiety, OCD, depression, emotion dysregulation, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) in children and adolescents. Specifically, Dr. Shimomaeda utilizes evidence-based treatments including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), exposure therapy, parent management training (PMT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), and trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy (TF-CBT). Dr. Shimomaeda enjoys working collaboratively with youths and caregivers to help them achieve their goals and improve relationships with each other.
Dr. Shimomaeda obtained her undergraduate degree in psychology from the University of Oregon (UO) where she assisted in both basic and applied research using psychophyisological methods. She worked as a research coordinator for a study on Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) before attending graduate school.
Dr. Shimomaeda completed her PhD in child clinical psychology at the University of Washington (UW) where her research focused on how child temperament, parenting practices, and exposure to stress contribute to risk for or resilience to psychopathology. Regarding clinical practice, she received training from Seattle Children’s Hospital (SCH) in assessing and treating mood and anxiety disorders and in conducting neuropsychological evaluations. She also completed 2 years of training with the UW Marsha M. Linehan DBT clinic where she provided comprehensive DBT and led adult and multifamily DBT skills groups.
Dr. Shimomaeda completed her pre-doctoral internship at Denver Health hospital on the child and adolescent mental health track. She worked in the pediatric emergency department providing consultation services for physicians and nurses on patient mental health related concerns and also worked in the adolescent inpatient unit treating individuals who had complex and high-risk presentations.
