BIOGRAPHY

Emily Gassert, LMHC is a Staff Therapist in the Anxiety Center at EBTCS. She specializes in providing evidence-based therapy to individuals with PTSD and trauma related disorders, anxiety disorders, and obsessive-compulsive related disorders. She has extensive experience in trauma-focused treatment, including prolonged exposure (PE), cognitive processing therapy (CPT), written exposure therapy (WET), and trauma focused cognitive behavioral therapy (TF-CBT). Additionally, Emily has completed specialized training in exposure and response prevention (ERP) for OCD through the International OCD Foundation’s Behavioral Therapy Training Institute (BTTI).

Emily completed her undergraduate degree in psychology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and her master’s degree in clinical psychology from Argosy University-Seattle. She has over 20 years of experience as a licensed mental health counselor and clinical supervisor. Emily has worked in a variety of community mental health settings. Most recently, she worked for 15 years as a therapist and supervisor at the King Country Sexual Assault Resource Center (KCSARC), where she provided therapy for victims of sexual assault, human trafficking, and domestic violence. In 2020 she, along with her team members at KCSARC, we were awarded the Sarah Haley Memorial Award for Clinical Excellence. The team was recognized for providing excellent, evidence-based trauma-focused therapy to survivors of sexual assault.

Emily takes a collaborative approach to therapy, meeting her clients at their own pace and readiness level while encouraging them to take the next step in their healing process. She works to empower every client to recognize their strengths and abilities to heal and move forward while creating healthy relationships and connections. Emily is highly focused on each individual and their care and is also conversational and expressive. Therapy often involves feeling some feelings, strategizing, science lessons, humor, and clarity. Emily has a lifelong commitment to critical thinking and expanding her skillset. She supports clients in their work of addressing past, current and future challenges.  Emily is welcoming and supportive of all gender identities, sexual orientations, religions, and races.

Emily is a licensed mental health counselor (LMHC) in the state of Washington. She is a member of the International Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder Foundation (IOCDF).
