About Dr. Michonski
Dr. Michonski has received extensive training in evidence-based treatments, including dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), and behavioral parent training. His primary clinical interest is in providing DBT to adolescents and their families who exhibit emotion dysregulation and related problems, such as self-harm, suicidality, interpersonal difficulties, impulsivity, anxiety, and mood disorders. Additionally, he specializes in the provision of behavioral parent training as an adjunctive form of treatment for parents of adolescents enrolled in DBT.
Dr. Michonski continues to be involved in research aimed at understanding the emergence of borderline personality disorder in children and adolescents. In addition to working with adolescents, he enjoys treating adults in our DBT program. He also has specialized training and interest in the integration of clients’ religious/spiritual beliefs into therapeutic practice when this is relevant for individual clients.
Dr. Michonski received his Bachelor’s degree from Cedarville University in Cedarville, OH and his Master’s and doctoral degrees in clinical psychology from the University of Houston. He completed his clinical psychology internship at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry in Rochester, NY. He obtained advanced training as a postdoctoral fellow at the DBT Center at EBTCS and after completing his fellowship stayed on at EBTCS as a Clinical Psychologist. Dr. Michonski is a member of the Association for Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies (ABCT) and is a licensed psychologist in the state of Washington.
