Treatments We Provide

Family-Based Treatment (FBT) for child and adolescent eating disorders is the treatment with the most evidence for successful recovery from anorexia nervosa and there is increasing evidence for its efficacy with bulimia nervosa.

Enhanced Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT-E) is a treatment that is effective for all types of eating disorders and is regarded as the first-line treatment for adults with bulimia nervosa and binge eating disorder. Additionally, CBT-E has been used with good results in early studies of adolescents with eating disorders.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a well-established treatment approach that helps individuals who have difficulty regulating their emotions and engage in self-defeating or self-destructive behaviors in response to intense or painful emotions.

For eating disorder treatment, DBT skills are sometimes recommended as an adjunct to CBT-E or FBT. More generally, DBT is a full package treatment within which CBT-E or FBT can be provided.

The psychiatrists at EBTCS have considerable experience supporting the psychiatric needs of clients recovering from eating disorders. The decision about whether to include medication as part of the overall treatment plan is made with each client on a case-by-case basis.

In addition to providing medication treatment services, our psychiatrists are also available for medication consultations for those individuals who are trying to decide whether medication might be a good option for them.

Currently, the psychiatrists at EBTCS only provide medication treatment services to those clients who are also receiving therapy services at our centers. For more information, please contact us.
