The Anxiety Center at EBTCS is now offering a 12-week treatment group (starting March 14, 2017) for obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), led by staff psychologist Alexia Spanos, PhD. Dr. Spanos has received specialized training in the treatment of OCD, including through the OCD Institute at McLean Hospital/Harvard Medical School Affiliate and the Evidence Based Treatment Centers of Seattle. She has also completed the Behavioral Therapy Training Institute (BTTI) through the International OCD Foundation (IOCDF).
Participants will have the opportunity to develop an individualized treatment plan using the gold-standard treatment for OCD, exposure and response prevention (ERP). ERP is a form of cognitive-behavioral therapy that is recommended by both the American Psychological Association and the American Psychiatric Association as a critical component in the treatment of OCD. ERP involves systematically confronting the triggers for OCD-related obsessions and decreasing the ritual behaviors that are typically associated with these symptoms.
