Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT) is recognized as one of the most effective treatments for adults with bulimia nervosa and binge eating through randomized controlled trials. IPT is a short-term and goal-oriented therapy that is based on the belief that interpersonal problems led to the development and the maintenance of the eating disorder. The goal of treatment is to identify areas of interpersonal problems and address these in order to reduce eating disorder symptoms. Sessions are held weekly and treatment generally takes 6 months or more.
